In a satisfying resolution to some anxious fans of The Miami FC, midfielder Kwadwo Poku, who was announced in the Black Stars’ selection last week for two friendlies against Mexico (June 28) and the United States (July 1), will join the team after playing in Miami FC’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matchup against Atlanta United of Major League Soccer on Wednesday.
There was great uncertainty, with media outlets reporting everything from Poku refusing the call-up to joining the team before the Open Cup game. Notably, the Miami FC itself did not put out a update on its website about the call-up until today, when this uncertainty was resolved.
Poku will play for Miami FC on the same day of Ghana’s friendly against Mexico, then travel to Hartford, Conn. to prepare for the Black Stars’ game against the United States.
It is Poku’s first call-up to the Ghana national team since October 10, 2015, when he played 8 minutes as a substitute in a 1-1 draw against Canada.
