It’s hard to believe that South Florida is quickly becoming a breeding ground for championship soccer. We’ve talked at length of the current Miami FC season, and we are usually really good about discussing the play of Miami United. The one team we haven’t given you enough details on is FC Miami City.
Miami City are currently sitting – yeah you guessed it – top of the table in the PDL’s Southeast Division. Through 10 games this season FCMC have racked up 27 points and their only loss comes to the team currently sitting in 2nd. The only thing more impressive than their near-perfect record is their current goal differential, sitting at a ever-comfortable +28.
FCMC don’t only know how to win, but they know how to do it in style. Each of their results in PDL play this year has resulted in wins of at least 2 or more goals. Mohamed Kourama leads the way for Miami with 10 goals followed by Kevin Coiffic and Hamza Mourchid. Their most prolific playmaker, Jonathan Parpeix — who spent some time in French Ligue 2 before coming to Miami-Dade — has provided 8 assists for the squad. Saturday the boys of FC Miami City will play their toughest competition to date in the Nicaraguan Men’s National Team.
Nicaragua comes in to the game looking for a tune-up prior to the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Taking the 100th spot in the FIFA world rankings, they’ve been able to qualify for the Gold Cup for the second time since 1991. Their only recent win in international play comes against Haiti, which granted them birth into the Gold Cup tournament.
Most of Nicaragua’s talent pool plays their club soccer within the country. Their inexperienced squad, led by 33 year old captain Manuel Rosas (31 caps), is hoping to make some noise in what has been called the “CONCACAF group of death”. Nicaragua kick off their Gold Cup campaign in one week’s time versus Martinique, before having to deal with Panama and the U.S.
Tonight’s match should be an interesting test and will put on display the talent that Miami City possesses. PDL labels themselves as “The Path 2 Pro.” hopefully With a strong showing, some of the lads of Miami City could earn themselves a professional contract.
