Miami FC steamrolls San Francisco Deltas 7-0, claims NASL Spring Championship

It was over after 15 minutes. In a stunning display of dominance, The Miami FC scored three times against the San Francisco Deltas in 15 minutes Saturday night. After that, they didn’t let up and and won in a showing befitting a champion, 7-0.

The win clinched the NASL Spring Chanpionship for Miami FC, the first title for a professional soccer team in this city’s history.

After the game, the team celebrated with a presentation of the NASL Spring Season platter and fireworks, but the real fireworks were on the field.

The offensive onslaught came early and often. Dylan Mares scored first in the fifth minute, assisted by Vincenzo Rennella but set up by Stefano Pinho who started the attack with a beautiful through ball.

Five minutes later, it was Mares setting up Pinho with a beautiful pass. A simple pass cut through the center of the Deltas defense, and Pinho finished it then ran to the Dade Brigade end.

Five minutes later (notice a trend?), it was Richie Ryan with a seemingly impossible through ball to Blake Smith, who simply needed to put the ball across the face of goal so Pinho could again smash it into the back of the net. The Miami Mambo finished off one of the wildest 15 minutes in the history of the club.

If it wasn’t over by then, it was well and truly settled in the 35th minute, when a fracas on the field led to Deltas defender Reiner Ferreira being shown a red card.

After that, it was all academic. Mares in the 43rd minute finished off a rebound. Ariel Martinez hit a beautiful left-footed shot in the 53rd minute. And Stefano Pinho got his hat trick, plus more, with goals scored in the 75th and 89th minute.

It was one of the strongest displays of team football Miami FC has put together, and it was an appropriate display for a champion. Miami FC now looks ahead to a matchup against FC Cincinnati at Riccardo Silva Stadium on Wednesday. The team will travel to San Francisco to play the deltas again on Saturday, but that game is now a dead rubber, at least in terms of the spring season.

The victory set off a raucus celebration in the Dade Brigade end:

After the trophy presentation, the celebration was soon joined by members of the team.
