Miami Fusion FC claimed its second NPSL Sunshine Conference title on Saturday night, traveling across Alligator Alley and defeating host Naples United 3-2.
As their previous match against Naples showed, it wouldn’t be easy. Naples took an early lead, but Victor Cardoso pulled the game back even with a penalty kick in the 40th minute.
Fusion gained its first lead off a beautiful aerial pass from Adolfo Suazo and an even better chip of the Naples goalkeeper by Nico Micoli. The finish was so impressive, Fusion team members on the bench streamed toward the corner flag to celebrate with Micoli.
The lead wouldn’t last long, as Naples would again equalize. But it would set up a goal that will stay long in the memory of Fusion and its supporters.

In the 91st minute, David Ochoa sent in a cross, and Micoli was again the man on the spot with a finish that would seal the conference title. The loss by Miami United FC to Jacksonville Armada U-23 made it ultimately unnecessary, but the excitement shared by Fusion certainly won’t go away.
Fusion has now clinched a berth in the 2018 U.S. Open Cup, as well as a spot in the 2017 NPSL South Region playoffs.
