Previewing The Match: Miami FC vs. New York Cosmos

Well let’s be honest, perhaps soccer is the last thing on your mind at the moment. Nobody could blame you and we strongly urge that you finish up your hurricane preparations before even thinking about attending tonight’s Miami FC game against the New York Cosmos. Our preview is going to be short and to the point because we still have some prep work to do ourselves and we will probably not be in attendance.

The Miami FC take on the New York Cosmos in a midweek showdown of the old guard versus the new guard. The Cosmos come into Miami out of sorts and looking for anything to kickstart their fall season. Going 0-3-2 in their previous five, New York will undoubtedly look to new singings Arango and Lucky to get back under the skin of Miami FC. The duo tallied three goals against Miami last season.

If you think that’s all Miami has to worry about, well you’re wrong. Fresh on the scene Emmanuel Ledesma has proven to be a wonder-kid and a problem for Miami FC in recent meetings. Add Kobi Moyal to the mix and Miami could have their hands full on three days rest. If Nesta were one to change formations, we would probably argue that five midfields would be in tow for tonight’s match in what should be a defensive minded setting.

Miami will still be without Kwadwo Poku who finished his assignment with Ghana yesterday and Vincenzo Rennella still out with an undisclosed injury, Miami will have to look to Chavez and Pinho again. It will be crucial for Jaime Chavez to continue his impressive form as of late as an early goal could decide the game. Miami has scored first in their previous give meetings (four clean sheets) and the Cosmos have gone into the half behind in four of their last five.

Managing bodies and mentality will be the key for Miami tonight. Many of these players may be encountering a hurricane for the first time with their dwellings in South Florida. It is not easy to prepare physically and mentally when one of the world’s strongest storms in history is barreling towards you and your family. We haven’t even mentioned that Miami FC is probably getting out of town hours after the match to get to San Francisco for a showdown on Saturday.

Score Prediction: Miami 2-1
