For The Miami FC 2 preseason friendlies had been a cakewalk. South Florida FC and Weston FC had been dispatched rather easily. But the first challenge from a Miami-Dade squad proved to be more challenging.
In a 2-1 result, Miami FC 2 faced and dealt with its first serious challenge of their preseason schedule. But it wasn’t always easy.
In its previous preseason matches, Miami FC 2 got out to early leads, scoring their first before the 20th minute. That wasn’t the case Saturday night. It took until the 35th minute for Miami FC 2 to break through, with a Dylan Mares goal assisted by Tomas Greco.
In its previous preseason matches, the first goal was usually the sign that the real fight was over out of the opposition. That wasn’t the case Saturday night. Five minutes later, FC Kendall earned a penalty kick and converted it in the 42nd minute thanks to Jona Andrade.
In its previous preseason matches, Miami FC 2 turned the second halves into exhibition displays, saving its highest-scoring output for last. That wasn’t the case Saturday night. Miami FC 2 managed just one more goal, the game-winner, in minute 67. Jeff Michoud (a familiar face to Miami FC fans, as he played for opposition in Miami FC’s Open Cup runs the previous two years) scored with a strong shot from distance to give Miami FC 2 the margin it needed.
As The Miami FC 2 preseason continues and the team hosts the Soccer Institute at Montverde Academy (SIMA) of the Premier Development League, it will hope for a more convincing result.
