After weeks of competition, Miami United FC emerged with the Romero Cup title after defeating Red Force FC in the tournament final at Tropical Park Stadium on Tuesday night, 4-2.
Red Force FC took an early lead thanks to a goal by David Holguin, who was able to poke the ball in after some uncertainty from Miami United’s defense.
Miami United was soon able to equalize thanks to Man of the Match Gabrielle Privitera. Privitera would score two before halftime, and add a third around minute 60 to claim his hat trick. Defender Darryl Gordon added the other goal, scored right the intermission.
Holguin scored the second Red Force FC goal, this time soon after the start of the second half. A penalty kick conversion made the score 3-2, but that is as close as it would get.
While Privitera bagged his hat trick, teammate David Ochoa claimed the top goalscorer award for the entire tournament.
Miami United completed the Romero Cup competition undefeated, dominating the rest of the teams in the tournament. It is a fine tune-up for Miami United’s NPSL season.
