FC Miami City will begin its PDL Southeast Division season hosting the Lakeland Tropics in Miami on Saturday 6PM at Tropical Park. This will start a 3 match homestand to open the PDL season. The club look to be in top shape after a vigorous pre-season playing NPSL clubs Boca Raton and Miami United. If that competition wasn’t stiff enough, City had to match up against Miami FC in the US Open Cup play-in round. To close the preseason they also faced the U.S. Men’s National U-20 team at Central Broward Regional Park.
Last season in the Southeast Division FC Miami City finished just one point behind SIMA Aguilas, which earned them a spot in the Southern Conference Championship as well as the US Open Cup. SIMA had also qualified for the cup and lost in the first round to the Jacksonville Armada 0 to 2 in Montverde, FL.
The club was able to retain nine players from the 2016 or 2017 rosters including PDL star Kevin Coiffic. Most notably absent from the 2018 City squad include Jonathan Parpeix and Mohamed Kurouma, both of which were named 2017 All Conference Players. Parpeix finished the season with 8 assists which was the second most across the PDL. The club signed 19 new players to the club which include a wide variety of experience ranging from international careers, NCAA players, and USL players.
Defender Matteo Mancinelli and Midfielder Rasmussen Akhmatov are both new to the club and are coming off seasons in 2017 at USL side FC Saint-Louis. Defender Diego Hurtado who previously played with the New York Cosmos and Miami United, also joins the squad to bring professional experience to the PDL.
