DELRAY BEACH — After a staggered start to the 2018 National Premier Soccer League season, The Miami FC 2 appears to have found its form. The team has won three in a row, capped off by a 5-0 win over Boca Raton FC.
The resurgence by the club dovetails nicely with the return of Jaime Chavez as a strong scoring threat. Chavez had Miami’s first two goals, at minute 11 and 24. Chavez’s first goal was a physical effort, while the second was a classy finish of a Don Smart cross.
The backbreaker for Boca Raton came in minute 35, when midfielder Dylan Mares was able to get his foot on the ball in the box and launch it into the roof of the net.
The substitution of Ariel Martinez on for the second half proved to be a difference maker, as he earned a penalty (minute 60), scored a goal (minute 61, after a missed penalty attempt) and added an assist (minute 65, on a lovey lifted ball to Sean McFarlane down the center of the field).
Boca didn’t manage to produce much of an opportunity to score throughout the match.
Miami FC’s next matchup is a critical faceoff against top-of-the-table Jacksonville Armada FC on Wednesday at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville at 7 pm.
