Miami-Dade County was well represented in the NPSL Conference XI on Friday, as three players from The Miami FC 2 and two players from Miami United FC were recognized by the league for their performance in the Sunshine Conference. In addition, Miami FC coach Paul Dalglish was named the coach of the year in the conference.
For Miami FC, it had a player recognized in all outfield positions. Defender Mason Trafford, midfielder Dylan Mares and forward Jaime Chavez all got the nod. Only Jacksonville Armada FC, who Miami FC will meet in the NPSL Sunshine Conference championship game on Saturday, had more players honored.
For Miami United, it was defender Daniel Navarro and forward David Ochoa who received recognition.
Doing more with less
What makes Ochoa’s honor all the more impressive, and what hints to the quality that he brought to the field this year, is that Miami United has been without him as a starter since June 6 when he suffered an injury in the first half of the team’s game against Orlando City in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Miami United’s season came to an end on Thursday at the hands of Jacksonville.
