Miami’s House of Soccer Pays Homage To Legends and Local Flair

The House of Soccer event kicked off Friday afternoon in an effort to unite the soccer culture of the Magic City. Located at Mana in Wynwood, the world’s greatest players (american football as well) took the field in a small sided showcase. If that 5-on-5 action wasn’t compelling enough there were four trophies on hand for photo opportunities.

Not to be outdone, La Liga sent over their newest champions trophy as well. The sleek new design will gladly be welcomed into the hands of any of the first division Spanish clubs.

Shortly after fans had enough time to grab a drink and get some photo opportunites the FC Bayern legends took on the University of Miami Hurricane alumni. With a mix of celebrities and former footballers on both sides, the Canes gladly welcomed former ballon d’or winner Hristov Stoichkov. Most of the hurricane alumni included kickers and punters of the past with the exception of Jonathan Vilma and Quadtrine Hill.

The Bayern legends undoubtedly included Lothar Matthaus who scored the first goal of the contest. Miami answered back a few minutes later with Copa90’s Aaron West (@ayyy_west) being left open on the back post. Unfortunately for the Hurricanes a second goal would be conceeded and they’d find themselves down at half time.

The second half brought a twist to the action as the game changed to flag football. Jonathan Vilma opened the scoring with a pick six. After some crafty performances from Hill as the QB, Miami found their way back into the game expectedly. Bayern would not lay down easily in this other version of football. Bayern managed to get some help from their celebrity friends and stay in the game forcing an overtime!

One penalty kick would be taken from each club. Stoichkov was selected by the Hurricane alumni and was unable to find the back of the net. Bayern legend Elbar made no mistake on his effort as Quadtrine Hill was unable to stop the penalty giving the bragging rights to the soccer players from Germany.

Come back to this page throughout the day as we update with more from all the action from the House of Soccer from Mana in Wynwood!
