Real Madrid will start its United States tour in Miami on Tuesday night, while Manchester United will be wrapping it up. Real Madrid and Manchester United, literally heading in different directions, will meet at Hard Rock Stadium on Tuesday night.
Manchester United, which will likely be bringing its strongest lineup of the preseason so far to Miami Gardens, is looking for its first win. The Red Devils are coming off a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool at Michigan Stadium. Following the game, manager Jose Mourinho made clear his opinion on the quality of the team available to him in Ann Arbor and the American tour overall.
“The atmosphere in the stadium was good but if I was them I wouldn’t come,” Mourniho said. “I wouldn’t spend my money to see these teams.”
Hopefully supporters in South Florida will see a game more in keeping with Mourinho’s high standards.
Getting Real
New Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui, still in his honeymoon period and with a team which has not yet played a competitive match, was a bit cheerier when he spoke to the press at Hard Rock Stadium on Monday.
“We’re completely happy with our team,” Lopetegui said through a translator to the assembled media on Monday. “We’re convinced that we have the roster to fight for all of our objectives this year.
“Despite the fact that it’s a friendly, being Real Madrid, it’s always very important for us to play well. … We’ll look to play well, put on a good spectacle, we hope there’s no injuries, and we look to keep taking forward steps as we look forward to the Supercopa.”
Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Hard Rock Stadium. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster. If not attending, the game can be viewed on ESPN2.
