INTER MIAMI CF: Miami MLS club confirms name, crest with special section in Miami Herald

After months of speculation and years of waiting, Miami finally has an official name to identify its new Major League Soccer franchise: Inter Miami CF.

While trademark filings allowed supporters to have a good idea, it was confirmed bright and early this morning with a wrap-around insert placed in today’s Miami Herald.

Co-owner Jorge Mas revealed the reveal through his Twitter account, as he shared video of today’s Herald rolling off the presses.

“It symbolizes the heritage of city, the ambition of our people, and the solidarity of our community,” the statement says of the club crest.
“Above all, it marks another step we have taken on the journey to realizing this dream, together.”

The section includes a more thorough breakdown of the previously revealed crest, including the significance of the double-ring design (a nod to the Miami Circle archaeological site in downtown Miami), an explanation of the eclipsed sun at the center of the shield, and even the end of the great bird debate (they are two Great White Herons).

In addition to the special section, the club launched a new website (https://www.intermiamicf.com/), complete with information about the crest and name release, as well as the club mantra, “Libertas. Unitas. Fortuna.”

Visual flare wasn’t limited to newsprint. A building in Downtown (90 SW 8th St) was painted with Inter Miami CF flare, black and pink dominating the color scheme.

Listen to Jorge Mas talk about the name reveal after a Miami City Commission meeting in July.
