Jason Kreis, the former Major League Soccer most valuable player and a former manager for Real Salt Lake, New York City FC and Orlando City SC, will head upstairs and join Inter Miami CF as a consultant to the team’s technical department, headed by sporting director Paul McDonough.
“We are excited about the technical staff we are putting together and to be able to add someone of Jason’s quality and experience to the group is invaluable,” McDonough said in a statement released to the club. “Our mission as technical staff will be to provide support to our academy and first team coaches.”
The statement hints that Jason Kreis will not be part of the coaching staff once the club debuts next year. Paul Tenorio of The Athletic was able to gather more information on that front from McDonough in an interview earlier today (subscription required). A head-coach search is still ongoing, and that coach will have the freedom to build his own staff.
The news is the latest indicator that the club is starting to build momentum as 2020 nears. After near radio silence for two months following the club’s referendum victory on Nov. 6, 2018, no news was shared through the team’s Twitter or Facebook pages. Since the start of the new year, however, five hires have been announced: Kurt Schmid (Technical Director), Niki Budalic (Director of Soccer Operations), Juan Carlos Michia and Victor Pastora (Academy Coaches), and Kreis. That doesn’t include a stadium focus group organized last week and this week’s announcement about a planned redevelopment of Lockhart Stadium.
