FIFA Council comes to Coconut Grove on Friday

The FIFA Council, formerly known as the FIFA Executive Committee, will be coming to the Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove Hotel on Friday.

According to the group’s posted agenda, they will be discussing (among other things): the future of the FIFA Club World Cup and Nations League, VAR at the FIFA Women’s World Cup this year in France, and increasing the number of teams from 32 to 48 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino will lead the group. The FIFA Council was formed after the 2016 Extraordinary Congress, which dealt with controversies following FIFA’s corruption scandal. FIFA dissolved the FIFA Executive Committee and formed the Council, with a new structure, and more power.
