Miami United are looking like a club that could have made a long run in the U.S. Open Cup had they only had a chance to enter the tournament. Not having dropped a match since their season opener against cross-town rival Miami FC, United have won their last four matches by an impressive margin. Unfortunately for the pink and black, their cross town rivals are outgunning them against the same set of opponents.
The Pink & Black Dominate Again In North Miami
Miami United has been out in full force and trying to light up the lamp every chance they get. Last week, United bested Central Florida in Winter Park by a score line of 5-1. After an early goal from Camacho, Gotler and Montano kept their scoring streak going by going into the half up four. Storm would provide a stiffer challenge as their players seem to have finally cleared NPSL registration.
The pink and black were having a difficult time breaking down the defense of Storm FC in the opening moments of the match. Despite overwhelming possession, Storm looked much more cohesive on the backline. In the 36th minute, United would get their first opportunity to put one on the scoreboard after a yellowcard to Storm FC awarded them a penalty. Matheus Gotler stepped up and buried his attempt extending his goal streak to three games.
United would not find another decent look at goal in the remaining minutes of the first half and went into the locker room up only a goal against a side that their cross-town rivals absolutely throttled. United would come out determined to add to their lead. Bryan Perea, who earned the start over Nicolas Micoli, would find the back of the net in the 47th minute.
Disaster would strike for Storm as a 2nd yellow card would be issued to Modesto Mendez for a hard challenge around the center circle in the 56th minute. After being given his marching orders, United could not be stopped. Montano would also extend his goal streak to three games after burying his effort in the 71st. Micoli would get in on the action also in the final ten minutes of the match bringing United’s total to four.
The Road Ahead For Miami United
The pink and black need to make up the goal differential in a hurry if they want to take away hosting rights from Miami FC. The team from Miami Shores has built an eleven goal advantage over United as of this point and they do not look to be dropping points any time soon. United must continue to play their game and keep knocking down each opponent placed in front of them. With a trip to Jacksonville coming up on June 1st, they will have memorial weekend off. Don’t expect to catch United napping against any of the weaker sides in the conference anytime soon.
