After a strong preseason debut against Weston FC a week before, The Miami FC 2 exploded for nine goals in a dominant 9-1 victory over South Florida FC of the American Premier Soccer League on March 25, 2018.
It’s always hard to read too much into preseason friendlies, but The Miami FC 2 fans were finally treated to a glimpse of Paul Dalglish’s footballing philosophy last weekend with an emphatic 5-0 win over Weston FC from the PDL. The affable Scot had been saying all the right things since being unveiled earlier in the year. Open, expansive soccer. An attacking mentality. Exciting play. He duly delivered on a lovely Sunday lunchtime in Miami.
As you’ve heard Miami may not have a team in the “Pro” leagues this year but that does not mean that there is no soccer to enjoy throughout the Magic City. This season the hardcore soccer fan can take in as many as 19 regular season games between the months of April and July. Miami FC 2, Miami United, and FC Miami City will each have a home slate plus additional games that are played within a 45-minute drive.
It was a game of firsts for The Miami FC 2, yet it seemed very similar at the same time. A new name. A new coach. Many new names.
Yet it was a number of familiar faces who led the way, as Miami FC 2 claimed its first victory, defeating Weston FC 5-0 to open the 2018 preseason at Bobcat Field at St. Thomas University.
Miami Fusion F.C. — which was founded in 2013 and won the National Premier Soccer League’s Sunshine Conference in 2017 — has folded, per a source close to the conference.
It took a little while, but The Miami FC shook off its post-Hurricane Irma rust and showed its quality against Miami United FC’s APSL squad, 6-0.
Miami Fusion FC claimed its second NPSL Sunshine Conference title on Saturday night, traveling across Alligator Alley and defeating host Naples United 3-2.
Much of the talk in the Miami-Dade County soccer world has been focused on The Miami FC of the North American Soccer League. Between its 14-game unbeaten run and its two victories in U.S. Open Cup competition against Major League Soccer opposition, it’s worth talking about. However, a boiling rivalry has formed in a lower division, and the NPSL Sunshine Conference championship may come down to a local derby between these two clubs: Miami United FC and Miami Fusion FC.
