It’s the evening of 5th of November 2017. I’m bent double with my head in my hands as the sounds of boisterous celebration by the contingent from the New York Cosmos in Riccardo Silva Stadium confirm that The Miami FC’s 2017 NASL season is over. Mason Trafford has just planted his shootout effort onto the woodwork. For the first time in my life I couldn’t watch a penalty. It meant too much. Of all the players I didn’t want to miss, it was Mason. He’d not put a foot wrong all year, the likable boy from Boynton Beach had become a fan favorite for his consistent performances in defense. Soccer is a sport that writes cruel scripts.
The city of Miami has yet to make its triumphant return to Major League Soccer, but the 2019 season will have a bit more 305 flare. Luis Gonzalez, bettern known as Luchi Gonzalez, was born in Hialeah and raised in Miami-Dade County. He will take over as head coach of FC Dallas, the culmination of a long journey for the Gulliver Prep product.
The Miami FC CEO Sean Flynn and manager Paul Dalglish met members of the press and the general public on Thursday night promoting the club’s new partnership with Soccer Academy of the Americas. However, the club’s leadership also spoke about plans on the field in 2019.
The Miami FC returned to Tamiami Park on Thursday night to announce a new collaboration, partnering with the Soccer Academy of the Americas to create The Miami FC Youth Academy Program.

Three months ago, it appeared La Liga and Relevent Sports would be bringing one of the biggest soccer events in South Florida history to Hard Rock Stadium in January. But today, FC Barcelona announced it would not be participating in a game with Girona FC next month, dealing a significant blow to the league’s hopes of playing outside Spain.
Even though Miami’s major league soccer team won’t kick off for at least another year, those interested in the league can join with Inter Miami CF supporters in Miami on Saturday night to watch the MLS Cup Final.
Barry men’s soccer made history on Saturday, as the program claimed its first NCAA Division II national championship by defeating West Chester University in comeback fashion, 2-1.
It was the most highly anticipated matchup of the UPSL Florida South Division season so far. Undefeated and untied Florida Soccer Soldiers faced off with undefeated and untied Miami Sun FC. The game that started with such excitement ended with such controversy, as Florida Soccer Soldiers scored off a contested corner and the Miami Sun FC complaints reached such a fever pitch that the referees called the match more than 20 minutes early.
If a Miami-based group has its way, per Sports Illustrated soccer maven Grant Wahl, the second stage of the Copa Libertadores final between Boca Juniors and River Plate won’t be played at El Monumental or in Argentina at all. The game will be played somewhere in Dade County.
Hearing a group from Miami is pushing hard with CONMEBOL to bring the Boca-River Copa Libertadores final 2nd leg to the Miami area. Decision expected from CONMEBOL meeting in Paraguay tomorrow.
