A short roundup of coverage about Miami soccer:
–MiamiHerald.com: Soccer fever is shaking up Peru as they set eyes on the World Cup
Andre Carrillo, with his hair dyed gray, booted in a first-half strike, and Edison Flores used his left foot to knock in a rebound in the second 45, much to the delight of the crowd of 46,893, which was dominated by red-and-white clad Peru fans.
Walter Villa of the Miami Herald writes a recap of Friday’s Peru-Croatia victory, where Los Incas dominated in front of a very pro-Peru crowd. But he also goes into greater detail about what Peru’s participation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup means to the fans.
–NBCSports.com: Ancelotti to coach Beckham’s MLS team in Miami?
After moving to Miami full time, David Beckham is reportedly looking at appointing Carlo Ancelotti as the first-ever manager of his Miami franchise in Major League Soccer.
When you don’t actually have a team playing on the field, all you have is silly season. England’s Daily Mirror is not the most reliable source, however there are Beckham-Ancelotti connections, and if Becks could bring in Carlo to lead the Fútbol Miami MLS side, Ancelotti would immediately become the most prestigious manager to ever lead a side in America. Stay tuned.
–Instagram romerocup: Are you ready for semi finals?
The preseason tournament the Romero Cup is beginning to wind down. In last Saturday’s semifinals, Red Force defeated Montverde Soccer Academy 3-0 and Miami United FC scored an even bigger win over FC Kendall, 5-0. Red Force and Miami United — both 2018 U.S. Open Cup participants — will square off later this week.
