Miami Herald: Hard Rock Stadium in negotiations for Brazil and Argentina friendly

According to Michelle Kaufman of the Miami Herald, negotiations are underway to bring a post-World Cup friendly match to Hard Rock Stadium featuring Brazil and Argentina.

Relevent Sports, which is owned by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and is responsible for El Clasico in Miami last summer, is working to bring the two super squads near the end of July. RSE Ventures, which handles the soccer business of Relevant, works closely with the Brazilian national team, according to the Herald.

Prior history in Miami

Brazil has played at the stadium twice in the last six years. Canarinho beat Honduras 5-0 in 2013, then played Colombia in a rematch of their 2014 FIFA World Cup classic later that year. Brazil won, 1-0. Argentina

Both of Brazil’s matches have brought in more than 71,000 spectators. Since the stadium’s renovation was completed last year, the maximum capacity has been reduced to less than 65,000, so a sell-out would be expected.

Argentina last played in Miami in 2004, when the team lost to Colombia 2-0 in a friendly at the Orange Bowl stadium. La Albiceleste played two other matches at the Orange Bowl, against the United States in 2003 (a 1-0 victory) and 1993 (a 2-1 victory).
