It’s Academic: Miami Soccer Academy defeats Miami United

Miami Soccer Academy defeated Miami United by four goals to two in the final of the inaugural South Florida Champions Cup.

A soaking wet and cold Kendall Soccer Park was the venue for what many predicted as a win for Miami United. But as is the case in cup soccer, favorites don’t always come out on top. Miami Soccer Academy raced into a 3-0 lead in the first 30 minutes, exploiting the high defensive line employed by Miami United with some direct through balls.

Miami United pulled one back on the stroke of half time with a wonderful strike direct from a free kick.

The rain continued to pour into the second half. United did manage to spark hopes of a comeback with a second goal but the honors in the end went to Miami Soccer Academy, who put the game to bed with a fourth goal after their opponents had their goalkeeper sent off.

The final score was 4-2 and it will certainly be a great boost to the young Academy side to pick up a medal and lift a trophy after sending their more illustrious opponents packing.
