Inter Miami CF limped into the Major League Soccer international break on May 29 with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of D.C. United at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. The Herons will have a chance to reverse their fortunes fully by traveling to Audi Field on Saturday and playing D.C. United again.
There will be only small changes to each side in the rematch. The most notable will be the absence of midfielder Júnior Moreno, who remains on leave with Venezuela during their Copa América campaign.
For Inter Miami, defense will be key. After the club’s season-opening 3-2 collapse to LA Galaxy, it proceeded to give up only four goals in its next four matches. Miami has given up six goals in its last three, including the thumping at the hands of D.C. United on Memorial Day Weekend. If fans see more leakiness from the back line, there likely won’t be much good news from the draw.
For the hosts, D.C. United has not drawn a single match this season, claiming wins over Miami, New York City FC and a Chicago Fire side that sits on the bottom of the Eastern Conference (and handed Miami an embarrassing 1-0 defeat at Soldier Field). That’s five losses from eight starts. Will we see the D.C. United side we’re used to seeing this season, which has struggled to put the ball in the net and more often than not gives three points to the opposition? Or will it be a redux of the 3-0 shellacking? Only 90 minutes will tell.
