Inter Miami CF was hoping for a bounce-back after a poor result to D.C. United before the MLS international break. Instead, it was more of the same, as the Herons dropped their second in a row to United and third overall Saturday night, 1-0.
It was arguably a better result than the 3-0 home thumping the club endured on May 29, but red cards given to Gregore in the 56th minute and Ryan Shawcross in the 84th minute mean that Inter Miami will enter its Sunshine State Derby down two key players.
Both clubs had opportunities for a breakthrough in the first half, especially in injury time. Miami’s best opportunity came from the foot of Brek Shea, but D.C. keeper Bill Hamid was able to make the stop.
The breakthrough came in the 71st minute, when an unfortunate (but correct) handball was called against Miami defender Christian Makoun in the box. Ola Kamara stepped up, sent keeper John McCarthy the wrong way, and gave his club a lead it would not relinquish.

The loss of two players in the second half made a comeback virtually impossible, and confirmed Inter Miami CF to remain three points out of playoff position in the MLS Eastern Conference.
