FC Miami City Overhaul Roster & Staff Seeking A Return To Normal

It’s not rare to have a roster turnover with quite a few players leaving, especially in lower division football. What FC Miami City have done is surely something that has not been replicated quite often. The entire roster has been overhauled, not even one player returns from the 2018 season. How will that work for City in inaugural USL League Two campaign? For the new coaching staff, it has to be better than the previous campaign.

2018 was a forgettable year for Miami’s lone club in the USLPDL. After getting shellacked in the play-in round of the U.S. Open Cup by Miami FC, City went on to have a mediocore rest of the year. The City men finished 5-8-1 over 14 matches amassing 16 points. Their effort found them mid-table and 14 points out of the final playoff spot.

The newly branded USL League 2 has brought some new competition to the southeast division with teams in Daytona and some re-branded sides such as Sarasota (IMG academy) and Treasure Coast Tritons (North County United/SF Surf). City finds themselves with with a 1-1-0 record through two matches so far. Julian Pedraza is surely still working through cohesiveness and chemistry concerns early in the season, but it’s important for the magic city club to find their footing soon. Anything more than two losses in the season will likely find them out of the playoffs for a second year in a row.
